TULARE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Feta cheese and new jobs are coming to Tulare after a multimillion-dollar expansion of a Tulare production facility. The County of Tulare says the $55 million expansion will fund a 38,000-square-foot facility that will produce feta cheese for the U.S. market. The new cheese coming to town is Lactalis USA's Président Feta cheese. Lactalis USA is a subsidiary of the French-owned Lactalis, the world’s largest dairy company that produces a variety of cheese products including Cracker Barrel and Breakstone’s, which they acquired from Kraft in 2020. Lactalis says the new production line will be the group's largest feta production line in the United States and will create 20 full-time positions in Tulare along with 100 temporary or contract positions during construction, which is set to be complete in 2027. "This expansion helps us meet the growing demand for Président Feta cheese in the United States, which is good news for our retail customers and consumers who continue to choose Président Feta for cooking at home and creating new occasions to enjoy feta,” said Esteve Torrens, chief executive officer at Lactalis USA.
