INDIANA (WANE) -- Marlin Stutzman has won Indiana's 3rd Congressional District seat.
The Republican faced off against Democrat Kiley Adolph and Libertarian Jarrad Lancaster in the polls. Stutzman declared his win just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after getting 63% of the votes.
The Associated Press declared Stutzman the winner at 7:41 p.m.
Republican Jim Banks has been the 3rd Congressional District representative since 2017. Stutzman will be returning to his seat after Banks replaced Stutzman, who first served in the role from 2010 to 2017.
This election cycle, the main focuses of his campaign were:
Building a healthy economy
Border security
Education
Defending the unborn
Healthcare
Stutzman, who owns a farming operation and trucking company, called for reining in federal spending, which he said is driving up inflation. On immigration, he wants the U.S.-Mexico border wall completed and he supports abolishing the U.S. Education Department.
According to Stutzman's website, he previously served in the Indiana House of Representatives and the Indiana State Senate. Stutzman was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 and served on various committees like the Financial Services Committee, the Agriculture Committee and the dean of Indiana’s Republican delegation.
