FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Fresno County's Department of Behavioral Health announced plans to apply for $67 million from the state to fund three programs that will allow the county to meet the increased demand for behavioral services. According to Fresno County, the $67 million will come directly from the state Bond Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program's round 1 grant funding. "Under the recently approved California Proposition 1, over $4 billion in bond funding will be used for competitive Bond [BHCIP] grants focused on behavioral health treatment settings to help expand the continuum of behavioral health treatment and service resources," Fresno County officials wrote in a statement. If Fresno County's application is approved, officials say they will use the money to fund three programs that will help involuntarily detained persons, young people, and those in need of same-day and urgent care services. The county's first project is a psychiatric health facility [PHF] meant to support the community's needs and meet new statutory requirements related to the care of persons who are involuntarily detained who have a severe substance use disorder or co-occurring mental health conditions. Fresno County says its first project will add 16 inpatient beds to the PHF. Their second project proposes building a new 16-bed psychiatric residential treatment facility [PRTF]. According to Fresno County, that facility will expand the treatment continuum for young people and provide an intensive upstream approach to care for those with complex needs. Finally, Fresno County intends to build a new treatment center to expand capacity and growth for outpatient care including urgent care services with same-day drop-in services to provideadditional care to individuals in need of services. The treatment center's goal, Fresno County says, is to prevent hospitalization and institutionalization. The treatment center will serve youth and adults and will be centrally located and accessible toHighway 180.
