MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The Middletown Police Department announced Tuesday that Chief Anthony Pesare will be retiring in December. Pesare's final day will be Dec. 11 after serving in law enforcement for four decades. "I don't think it's any secret about my love for Middletown and what this community standsfor and represents," Pesare said. "This town is a special place, and (my wife) Mary and I feeltruly blessed to have made it our home for over twenty years." ALSO READ: Narragansett police chief to retire next month Pesare started his role as chief in 2004 after retiring from the R.I. State Police — where he was second in command. He originally retired from being chief in 2018, according to the Newport Daily News, and then returned to the position in February 2023 after then-Chief William Kewer stepped down.
