The SNF Parkway Theatre will host a one-night-only screening of the movie “Moneyball,” followed by a Q&A with Baltimore Orioles Assistant General Manager Sig Mejdal and veteran sportswriter Dan Connolly. The event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 6:15 p.m.“Moneyball” is not just for baseball enthusiasts, business leaders, and statistics fans. Anyone who loves great movies, stories of unlikely heroes, and underdogs triumphing will find themselves gripped by the film based on the true story of the Oakland A’s, and likely fascinated by the Q&A that follows.“Moneyball, based on Michael Lewis’s bestselling book, tells the riveting story of Billy Beane and the Oakland A’s as they redefined Major League Baseball with sabermetrics—a revolutionary data-driven approach to player evaluation,” reads the press release. “Beane’s innovative methods allowed the A’s to remain competitive despite their small budget, fundamentally challenging traditional baseball scouting and reshaping the way teams evaluate talent. The Orioles have followed in this data-forward path, leading to a dramatic turnaround from 110 losses in 2021 to AL East champions in 2023.”Mejdal and Connolly will dig into how the movie’s approach is still relevant today, giving fans a look behind the curtain at the Orioles’ data-driven strategies and how analytics drive baseball. Mejdal is a pioneer in the field of baseball analytics. He’ll discuss how sabermetrics is an integral part of modern baseball management today. Connolly will connect those developments to the Baltimore Orioles for the local fans in the audience.Tickets are $13 and available for purchase on the SNF Parkway Theater’s website by clicking this link. This event is part of the SNF Parkway’s Science on the Screen series supported by the Sloan Foundation. The SNF Parkway Theater is located at 5 W.
