Deadly weekend: 4 dead in 4 crashes in Fresno County
Nov 04, 2024
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Four separate crashes all within the weekend claimed the lives of four separate people over the weekend.
The crashes were in different parts of Fresno County just hours apart during the weekend but each of them claimed the life of one person. One of the victims was identified as 22-year-old Miguel Marin, and the other was identified as 32-year-old Anthony Thomas.
The names of the other two victims have not been released yet.
"Just very, very heartbreaking, to say the least," said Mike Salas with the California Highway Patrol. "We don't typically see this many in such a short span of time, but unfortunately, it does happen."
There were a total of three crashes in the early morning hours of Sunday.
The first one happened just before 2 a.m. at Kearny and Fair avenues and claimed the life of a 21-year-old man.
The second one happened less than 45 minutes later at 2:30 a.m., this one on South and Reed avenues, claiming Marin's life.
An hour later at 3:05 a.m. Thomas was killed on McKinley and Blythe Avenues.
"Unfortunately, three out of the four fatal crashes involved a solo driver drifting off of the road and colliding into an object and subsequently taking their life. Again, very, very tragic," Salas said. "If you're not paying attention, if you're driving impaired, distracted, there's so many other factors that can lead to these tragedies. And we saw that firsthand this weekend that those did happen."
