A’s rebrand, drop ‘Oakland’ from name
Nov 04, 2024
(KRON) -- The "Oakland A's" are no longer. The team officially rebranded on Monday, dropping "Oakland" from its name, as seen on X.
The team will refer to itself as just the "Athletics." Its official name will not include a city, even though it will play its 2025 home games in West Sacramento.

While most teams abbreviate their names with a collection of letters related to their city (SF for the Giants, LAD for the Dodgers, etc.), the A's will use "ATH," the team said. Its previous designation was "OAK."
Much of the team's brand will look the same. It is keeping the same "Athletics" script on the front of its jerseys. Its primary logo will be a green "A's."
The team will play its first game at Sacramento's Sutter Health Park on March 31, 2025, as it welcomes the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series.
It plans to move from Sacramento to Las Vegas for the start of the 2028 season. If Monday's announcement is any indication, the A's do not seem likely to claim Sacramento at least for the time being.
