LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Head Coach Kenny Brooks is beginning his time in Lexington with a 55 point win.
The Wildcats defeated USC Upstate 98-43 in the first ever women’s basketball game held inside Historic Memorial Coliseum after its renovation.
“I thought they did handle themselves very well. We obviously have a lot to work on to get to where we want to be and we want to continue to climb. But, I thought they did a really good job of, you know, playing hard,” said Brooks.

Georgia Amoore’s first game as UK’s leader went well recording a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists. Clara Strack was the team’s leader in points though with 22.
She was 7/11 on field goals and 8/9 on free throws.
Amelia Hassett and Teonni Key showed out on the boards leading the team in rebounds with nine each.
Clara Silva was a force in the paint as she blocked a team-high six shots from Spartan players.
Kentucky has work to do from three point range though as the team shot just under 30 percent from behind the arc. Brooks assures that his team is training to find the open shots needed to drain triples
“We want everything to happen organically, we do a lot of individual work with our kids and they practice the shots that we want them to take,” said Brooks.
A(Little Bit)moore Communication
The captain’s high standards were preset even after Kentucky’s scoring onslaught in game one.
All-American Amoore giving her team a 2/10 for its performance in the first two quarters, but in the last two she saw a difference.
“I think this was perfect, just getting the ball to everyone and sharing the love,” said Amoore. “I’m so excited for what we can create here.”
Defensive break downs were also a point of emphasis for Amoore, who says that almost every issue the Cats have can be fixed with more communication.
