MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A driver was arrested early Saturday morning after flipping their McLaren over, causing it to go up in flames, Madera-area CHP announced.
According to CHP, they responded on Saturday at around 1:45 a.m. to a rollover collision involving a yellow McLaren on Business Route 41 near Root Creek Road.
‘Be a good friend’: How to prevent drinking and driving
Officers report an investigation revealed a 42-year-old man from Madera was driving a yellow 2023 McLaren northbound on Business Route 41, approaching the curve at Root Creek Road.
Investigators say the driver was unable to navigate the curve, causing the McLaren to leave the roadway and enter the right shoulder. The car overturned multiple times, eventually landing on its roof.
CHP says the vehicle caught fire and the driver and his passenger became pinned inside. Both were pulled from the McLaren before it became fully engulfed in flames.
Investigators say the driver, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, sustained, major injuries while his passenger sustained minor injuries— both including burns. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
CHP officers are reminding the public of the dangers of driving under the influence and urge those intending to drink to plan ahead to avoid these kinds of crashes and arrests.
