ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The temperature is dropping, and winter's right around the corner. For those who might want to take a vacation to a city to have a more complete "winter" experience, WalletHub recently released a new survey ranking the country's Best Winter Holiday Destinations. Source: WalletHub The site compared cheapest U.S. destinations that are also the easiest to reach. Nearly 70 of the largest metro areas were analyzed based on 37 key metrics, including two weeks of flight data, safety indicators, and weather predictions. The study focused mainly on the cost and convenience of traveling to each location and its affordability. How does New Mexico stack up when it comes to budgeting? Albuquerque made the list at #12 out of 32 cities for cold-weather destinations with an overall score of 57.6. The Duke City's weather shined the brightest, coming in at #1. Unfortunately, Albuquerque scored dead last when it came to safety. To make their rankings, WalletHub compared 69 of the most populated U.S. metropolitan statistical areas across six key dimensions: 1. Travel costs & hassles, 2. Local costs, 3. Attractions, 4. Weather, 5. Activities, and 6. Safety. Those dimensions were then evaluated using 37 relevant metrics with different weights. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale with a score of 100 representing the most ideal winter travel conditions.
