Lancaster County Sheriff's Cruiser (Jeff Motz/KFOR News)LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 4)–The Lancaster County Sheriff‘s Office parents and their kids to be cautious of who they befriend online, after a teenager was targeted in a sextortion scheme.
On Sunday, deputies learned that a teenager in the county had been manipulated into sending nude photos to a person posing as a 16-year-old girl on Instagram. The scammer then threatened to send the photos to the teen’s friends unless they sent them Apple gift cards, LSO said.
The victim alerted a parent and no money was lost. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says they stress to parents and their teenaged children that nude photos should never be sent to anyone because these scams have led to suicides. Houchin says in the case from Sunday, the scammer tried to contact the victim again and was not concerned that deputies were gathering information about the incident.
