AUSTIN (KXAN) — Looking to get rid of your extra Halloween candy? A few local and national groups are collecting candy to send to troops overseas. Here's a few groups collecting your extra Snickers, Smarties, Starbursts and the like: Treats for Troops San Antonio-based nonprofit Soldiers' Angels coordinates with businesses and organizations to create drop-off sites for excess Halloween candy. The groups then send candy to Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals, military installations and guard or reserve units. Here's a few sites in Central Texas: CGI Austin Metro: 2500 Bee Caves Road, Building 3, Austin Donations accepted 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until Nov. 14 Fighting Fit Kickboxing & Jiu Jitsu: 1779 Wells Branch Parkway, Austin Donations accepted 5:30-8:30 p.m. until Nov. 6 St. Faustina Kowalska Parish: 5252 S. Austin Avenue, Georgetown Donations accepted 10 a.m.-6 p.m. until Nov. 8 Williamson County Association of REALTORS: 123 Old Settlers Blvd., Round Rock Donations accepted 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until Nov. 30 Becher & Gil Orthodontics: 4464 Frontier Trail, Austin Donations accepted 8 a.m.-4 p.m. until Nov. 8 Leander Pediatric Dentistry: 903 Old Bagdad Road, Leander Donations accepted 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 5-7 Operation Shoebox The nonprofit accepts bags of individually wrapped candies — preferably heat-resistant candy during the warm season, according to its website. Operation Shoebox sends care packages to armed forces deployed. A full list of donation items is online.
