NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Police have given the ‘all clear’ after a hoax bomb threat made by a student at Quidnessett Elementary School this morning.
According to police Chief John Urban, a student riding on a bus said he had a bomb in his backpack.
A teacher then notified police, who called the bomb squad. A shelter-in-place was called at the school.
The bomb squad x-rayed the student’s backpack and found no explosives inside.
The bag was also searched before school resumed normal operations.
Police plan to charge the student with falsely reporting the placing of a bomb, according to Captain John MacCoy.
The student is in fifth grade, police said.
North Kingstown school superintendent Kenneth Duva said further consequences for the student who made the threat will be handled jointly by police and the school administration.
In a letter to parents, Duva wrote “It is important that we all have discussions with our children to stress the importance of being truthful and the seriousness of verbal and physical threats towards self and others.”
