Courtesy of AlphaMedia USA Lincoln.LINCOLN–(KFOR Nov. 4)–Ahead of Tuesday’s election, there’s been a report of a group on social media that claimed someone was trying to tamper with with a drop off box for election ballots at a north Lincoln library. According to the Lancaster County Election Commissioner’s Office, they were made aware of someone with a “malicious conspiracy theorist group” had recorded a video of a young man on a skateboard returning his ballot to the Eiseley Branch Library near 14th and Superior on Saturday. The Election Commissioner’s office said in a release to KFOR News the group “erroneously implied he was doing something wrong.” Surveillance footage was reviewed by the Election Commissioner’s Office of the ballot drop box and identified the voter when they retrieved his ballot. There is a video of the young man returning his ballot for his first Presidential Election. Commissioner Todd Wiltgen said the man took a selfie to highlight the importance of the milestone in his life. “It is shameful and unAmerican to intimidate and threaten anyone for exercising their right to vote,” Wiltgen said. Concerned for the voter’s safety, Wiltgen said his office contacted Lincoln Police, when commentors on the social media posts were threatening to harm the man. Officers did contact the man who turned in his ballot at the drop off box. “It is unfortunate this group is spreading false and misleading information to deceive the public and undermine confidence in our elections.” Commissioner Wiltgen stated “They should remove the post and apologize immediately.” The Lancaster County Republican Party took to “X” and stated it was a young man returning his ballot for his first presidential election. Everyone Calm down this is CONFIRMED to be a young man retuning his ballot for his first ever presidential election https://t.co/5VtyW2bAns — Lancaster County Republican Party (@LCRPNE) November 3, 2024 Lincoln Police Public Information Manager Erika Thomas on Friday mentioned that LPD, in cooperation with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, have been in contact with the Election Commissioner’s Office about about keeping voters and election officials safe before, during and after the election. Thomas said impeding eligible voters from casting ballots, stopping the vote count, or harming election officials are crimes. She added any potential election-related criminal violations will be investigated fairly and in accordance with the law.
