ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — With the colder months on the horizon, Wickham Farms has reached the end of yet another fall season. Officials tell News 8 this season was headlined by great fall weather that allowed folks to enjoy the plenty of apples and pumpkins that the farm provides. But what happens to all the leftover crop? As for the apples, Wickham Farms uses the remaining fruit to give back to the community. "If we have a good apple crop and we have some good apples come Halloween, usually the first day of November we have a great group that comes out, they harvest a bunch of apples, put them into bins, then we get to donate them to the local food shelves and people in need over the next month," Wickham Farms co-owner Dale Wickham said. "We had a great crop this year but the trees are pretty much empty now and that's the way we like it." Wickham said the corn maze would be combined and turned into ethanol or other grain products, and the leftover pumpkins will be composted to help prepare the fields for next year's crop.
