Another seven dirt roads paved as part of Berkeley County program
Nov 01, 2024
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD)- Another seven roads have been paved in Berkeley County as part of a years-long project to upgrade dirt roads within the county.
The following roads were part of the latest round of Dirt-to-Pave projects:
Marvel Oak Circle (Ladson)
Ranch Drive (Moncks Corner)
Heyward Lane (Moncks Corner)
Old Parker Road (Sandridge)
Jasper Lane (Sandridge)
Sanders McNeil Road (Cordesville)
Felix Lane (Summerville)
Kathy Waite, the receptionist at Clear Blue Pools on Marvel Oak Circle, said the road outside their business was paved two months ago, and it is already making travel easier for customers and distributors.
"One of our pool distributors, they drive an 18-wheeler," she said. "They would come down and it was all potholes all over the road, so when they come down now, it's easier for them to either back into our parking lot or go around the whole circle," she said.
The Dirt-to-Pave Program was established in the 2008 One-Cent Sales Tax Program and was renewed in 2014. Since its inception, at least 70 dirt roads throughout the county have been paved.
Waite said they are appreciative of the work being done.
"It's, you know, all around better. For the environment, the dust, and your car," she said.
Voters again passed a referendum in November 2022 to extend the one-cent sales tax program for another seven years.
