FORECAST: Breezy and dry as it starts cooling down
Nov 01, 2024
We're starting November with a few changes to our weather pattern as a cold front pushes across the area. Clouds and a few rain showers were the theme through the morning, but whether we picked up more than a few sprinkles to end our stretch without any measurable rainfall is still to be determined. The showers are gone, and the clouds start to clear as we head into the afternoon. With colder air lagging behind the front, it will turn into another warm day with highs in the 70s for most locations. It will be getting breezy, too, and with how bone dry it is, a Red Flag Warning has been put in place until 6 PM along and north of I-66 for the threat of rapid wildfire spread. Take caution outside this afternoon until the winds die down this evening.
Clear skies and calmer winds overnight will send temperatures tumbling into the 30s and 40s, leading us into a much more seasonal first weekend of November. High pressure will settle in and give us plenty of sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, but high temperatures will only reach the low to mid-60s. Overnight temperatures will remain chilly, in the 30s and 40s through Sunday night. Heading into next week, a warm front will lift across the DMV, but the storm system producing it will stay well west of us. This means it will continue to be dry, but temperatures will rise on Monday and Tuesday. Highs will go from the 60s into the upper 70s by Election Day under partly cloudy skies.
We'll even feel the warmth at night again, with lows only falling into the 50s and 60s on Tuesday night. After a few days of steadily warming up and increasing the moisture in the air, rain chances will return to the forecast next Wednesday and Thursday. Measurable rain that would end our dry stretch is not a guarantee yet, but unlike the cold front we just had, this looks like a better opportunity to end this dry stretch finally. Temperatures will likely cool off behind the showers and passing storm system toward the end of next week.
Have a fantastic weekend!
