UNM sweeps Mountain West cross country championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Lobos continue to dominate the field in distance running. On Friday, the UNM men's and women's team won the conference championship. Lobos also won individual titles with Habtom Samuel and Pamela Kosgei.
On the men's side, the team finished 1-5 as individuals. It is the first time in conference history a team has done so. This is now back-to-back seasons the men have won.
On the women's side, the team finished with 32 points to win the title for the 16th time in 17 years.
Samuel and Kosgei were both named Mountain West Athlete of the Year and Kosgei was named Freshman of the Year. Head Coach Darren Gauson was named both Men's and Women's Coach of the Year.
With Friday's performance, the Lobos earned a spot at the NCAA Mountain Regionals in Reno, NV. on November 15.
