4 Injured In Downtown Shooting

At Church St. between Crown and Center Friday morning. Four people between the ages of 19 and 22 were shot and injured downtown early Friday morning.According to a press release posted to the New Haven Police Department’s (NHPD) X account on Friday at 11:16 a.m., at around 2:03 a.m., city police “were alerted to several gunshots” and a person shot in the 800 block of Chapel Street.The victim, a 22-year-old woman from Hamden, was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.“Several officers enroute to Chapel Street were flagged down and alerted to a second gunshot victim on Church Street by Center Street.” That’s where they found a 19-year-old woman from West Haven with a gunshot wound. She was “unresponsive,” and was also transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment. She remains in “critical condition.”While on scene on Church Street, a 21-year-old man from Hamden who had been with the 19-year-old West Haven woman “was also determined to have been shot.”Later, a fourth shooting victim, a 19-year-old from New Haven, arrived at Yale New Haven Hospital by private vehicle.“The injuries to the males were all determined to be non-life-threatening,” Friday morning’s press release reads. “Detectives were able to determine the incident primarily occurred on Church Street by Center Street and two of the victims fled the area following the gunshots.”Police recovered a gun on scene, and located ballistic evidence.Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866 – 888-TIPS (8477).According to the city’s latest CompStat report, which provides local crime data through Oct. 20, there have been 10 homicides so far this year, compared to 19 at this time last year. There have been 152 confirmed shots fired so far this year, compared to 224 at this time last year. And there have been 75 non-fatal shootings so far this year, compared to 61 at this time last year.Looking north on Church Friday morning.
