Former ND Senator Ray Holmberg will report to jail
Nov 01, 2024
FARGO, ND (KXNET) — Former State Senator Ray Holmberg will report to jail in less than an hour from now for allegedly violating the terms of his temporary release as he awaits sentencing for a child sex crime.
That's on an order from a U.S. District Court Judge in Bismarck who says Holmberg must voluntarily surrender to the U.S. Marshal's Service in Fargo by 1 p.m.
KX News spoke to Holmberg's attorney within the last half hour who confirmed that Holmberg will turn himself in and he'll be taken into custody when he does so.
As we've previously reported, it was August of 2024 when Holmberg pled guilty to one count of traveling abroad with the intent to have sex with adolescents under the age of 18.
Ray Holmberg: A timeline of recent events
The conditions of his release allowed him to remain at his home in Grand Forks.
The former senator agreed to follow certain conditions including no usage of drugs or alcohol, no contact with victims or witnesses, location monitoring, and restrictions on using the internet.
Court documents obtained by KX News allege that Holmberg used multiple social media platforms on seven occasions, that he frequented an adult novelty store, tested positive for alcohol, and visited a home in Fargo without prior approval.
Holmberg is expected to remain in custody until his sentencing. That date has still not been set.
He could face up to 30 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and a lifetime of supervised release.
