Fresno County officials urge respect for voting sites

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – With days left to go until election day, Fresno County officials say they are pushing back against any election interference.
Fresno County Clerk James Kus, District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp, and Sheriff John Zanoni announced a combined effort on Thursday to remind people what is and is not allowed at voting locations.
According to Kus, any vocal advocacy, wearing materials with candidates' names, likenesses, or logos, and distributing buttons, stickers, pens, or other materials containing electioneering information could result in the person being asked to leave the facility under state law.
Kus says even political bumper stickers on cars parked within the 100ft range of the voting location could be asked to move.
The Fresno County Clerk and Registrar of Voters James Kus says they are opening 43 additional vote centers Saturday. They also have 53 in-person voting locations and 67 vote-by-mail drop boxes spread across the county for voters to go out and return their ballots.
Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp says they will be assisting the Fresno County Clerk and Registrar of Voter in the prosecution of any person or persons who violate the California Election Code during the 2024 season.
However, Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni says they are not aware of any credible threat or threats in Fresno County related to Tuesday's November 5th election.
It comes after a community of Democratic voters in Fresno went on alert after receiving letters targeting folks with Harris Walz signs in their front yards.
