KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Thursday's date wasn't enough of a roadblock to stop one Christmas tradition.
The Kansas City mayor's Christmas tree arrived at Crown Center Thursday morning.

The 100-foot tall tree made the 2,000 mile trek from Oregon.
Friday at 10 a.m. the tree will be lifted by crane and placed into a stand on Crown Center Square.
Crews will then spend the next three weeks getting it ready for the official lighting ceremony on the day after Thanksgiving.
Mayor Quinton Lucas and a special guest will flip the switch to light the tree.
"Half the reason for the fun of the holiday season and the Christmas season is because of happiness," Lucas said. "We'll be past all the drama. It's about what brings our community together. To me, I think this is what it's all about."

The wood from the trunk of the tree will be made into Christmas tree ornaments, which will be sold next year to benefit the mayor's Christmas tree fund.
To purchase an ornament made from last year's tree, visit Crown Center's customer service starting November 29.
