Oct 30, 2024
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Blue Front Fire has grown to over 300 acres as of Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, with 0 percent containment, and is located within the White Mountain Wilderness area at the Blue 2 and South Fork Fire burn scar, according to nmfireinfo.com.
The fire is located four miles west of Alto, New Mexico, and was detected on Monday, Oct. 28.
The fire spread through grass and dead/down fuels throughout the wildfire footprint on Tuesday, Oct. 29, as a result of high winds, according to the website.
The website says more resources will arrive on-scene on Wednesday, and will begin working in the area.
"Crews will focus on an 8-acre spot that crossed the South Fork Trail, and the South Fork Drainage Area. Air support will continue to be utilized as conditions allow," the website said.
Warm temperatures and high wind speeds are expected to remain for the rest of the week, which will be a factor in fire growth.
Homes in the Bonito Lake area are in a ‘ready’ status from the Lincoln County Emergency Management. ‘Ready’ status means that residents should be prepared to evacuate, according to the website.
