The facility will be developed on nine acres of land near PNM's Central Electric Substation near Central and 98th. The battery energy storage system will store excess energy to support the city's Southwest Mesa Power Grid and will help PNM reach its goal of zero carbon emissions by 2040. No tax dollars are used for the IRB program. Construction is expected to begin in late 2025. The facility is expected to be operational in early 2027.
