CHARLOTTE, NC —  Just over a week into early voting and the state board of elections said more than two million voters have cast their ballots in North Carolina.  The ballots cast represent a statewide turnout of about 13% of the state’s nearly 7.8 million registered voters. One of the top early voting sites in the county so far is on Beatties Ford road at the West Allegra Library. That’s where voting rights groups are pushing people to cast their ballot.  “This year was a pivotal time to make sure that they understand that everything that’s going on in our communities and our city and our state is on the line,” Charlene Henderson said.  Charlene Henderson is part of the Black Political Caucus.  She said  they are focusing on making sure people are informed and know the facts before they vote.  “So what our job is to make sure that they get the information, get the real information, not misinformation, but the real information on what their rights are,” Henderson said.  The Mecklenburg County Democratic Party says it’s important for voters to pay attention to local elections as well.  “A lot is at stake. You know, our democracy, our economy and a whole list of other things. So that’s why people need to get out and vote right now,” Clifford Waddell said.  Voters like 79 – year- old David Adams understand the importance of voting.  He remembers when the Voting Rights Act of 1965 passed allowing him and other black Americans to vote.  “I think the people, when they vote, they are saying something, they are telling you what they want, what type of leader they want and that is everything.”  Others said every vote counts and your vote could make a difference in the outcome of the election.  “If your candidate loses by a slim majority, it could be you that made the difference,” Fabius McKee said.
