FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Fresno Mission thrift store has been so successful that the nonprofit plans to open a second location. "People shop there and or donate with us, and then we're able to turn those goods into revenue, which is being able to be self-supported for the mission," Fresno Mission's Chief Business Officer, Sherri White said.  The Fresno Mission supports those in need by providing services such as a food pantry, overnight shelter and career counseling. "We're kind of a judgment-free zone, so I think people feel comfortable with that," White said. The current thrift location, off East Sierra Avenue, is stocked with everything you could imagine, from cars, furniture, clothes and more. "Our thrift store is very full, not only with customers and donors, but a lot of products, and so it was just time to expand," White said. White says the second thrift store, set to be the biggest in the Central Valley, will be located in the former 99-cent store at Bullard and 1st. Along with the new thrift location, the Mission is also opening a warehouse, which will support both stores.  This is expected to add up to 50 new positions. So, to fill the jobs, the non-profit hosted a job fair at the Fresno City Center, where hundreds of applicants were interviewed on the spot. "We have flexible work schedules and we're looking to help plug them in so that they can, you know, contribute to the community as well," White said. Applicant Juanita Bartels describes the process as a breeze. "Show up, grab an application, fill it out, have your resumé, and anything else that you need to bring with you; compared to others, this is very easy," Bartels explained.  Despite the large crowd, she's confident in what she has to offer. "I think I bring a lot to the table, I'm energetic, I have great qualities and I'm a people person, and I know that is very important skills to have," Bartels said.  The new thrift store is anticipated to open early next year.
