ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It's been more than a decade since the New Mexico Air National Guard had their own heavy-duty, rescue aircraft built for carrying cargo and large groups of people.  Now, three of those aircraft have landed at Kirtland with a plan to stick around.  "One thing I promise, our New Mexico airmen will deliver," said General Matthew Henry.   For the first time in 14 years, the New Mexico Air National Guard now has not one but three of their own HC-130J aircraft that will help with search and rescue and any future disaster in our state or worldwide.  "Rescue missions at the Sandia Mountains, like, we can be more involved in stuff like that," said Ivan Ramirez, assistant dedicated crew chief.   Local students work with Sandia Laboratories for high-altitude balloon research When it comes to emergencies or natural disasters in New Mexico the new aircraft can help if the governor calls on their response. Up until now, the Air National Guard's HC-130 planes have only been available for federal operations which they still plan to continue.  "So, there is humanitarian support elements to this, but I think our number one objective is to be there in case of a downed aircraft or if a commander overseas needs to task us to go support a certain region," said Lt. Colonel Lonnie Mazuranch, The aircrafts assigned to the New Mexico Air National Guard will help train crews for search and rescue all over the world along with the training operations at Kirtland the aircraft will help transport supplies and rescue gear but also with refueling other aircraft in mid-flight.  "We do personal recovery aviator training here, so we train our pilots, combat systems officers, and our load masters," Lt. Colonel Mazuranch.   Roughly one thousand people in the 150th Special Operations Wing will take care of the new aircraft that they hope will be in the New Mexico skies for years to come.  Man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend takes witness stand as trial continues in Albuquerque "We're training to save lives around the world," said Lt. Colonel Mazuranch.  The call sign for the aircraft is "The Tacos" something the unit picked in honor of the former air national guard fighter squadron.
