ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - U.S. 30 was closed for hours Friday as authorities investigated a fatal crash near the Ohio state line. Eastbound traffic was stalled on a mile-long stretch of U.S. 30 starting shortly after 3 p.m. on the eastern edge of Allen County. Initial information from dispatchers indicated at least one person was pinned in a vehicle. The preliminary investigation revealed speed may have contributed to the crash, according to Brent Bolinger, assistant public information officer for the Allen County Sheriff's Department. Sgt. Adam Griffith confirmed it was just one vehicle that crashed, and one person died of their injuries. It's unclear if anyone else was in the vehicle, or what led to the crash. A portion of U.S. 30 was temporarily closed as crews worked to clear the scene throughout the afternoon. Bolinger estimated the road would be closed until about 8 p.m.
