WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - A former Correctional Lieutenant with a sheriff's office in southeastern Wisconsin was sentenced to prison after reportedly providing contraband to an inmate. According to a release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Johanna Grace, a former Correctional Lieutenant with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, was sentenced to four months in prison on October 24. Two Wisconsin men arrested after gunshots near an elementary school Publicly filed documents show that Grace, 34, allegedly provided an inmate of the Waukesha County Jail with marijuana and a cell phone. The documents also detail that Grace reportedly worked with 'associates' outside the jail, on multiple occasions, to bring the contraband inside the facility. Grace admitted to obstructing justice as part of her offense, stemming from her sharing internal law enforcement reports with her associates after a tipster alerted authorities to Grace's actions. During the sentencing hearing, the presiding United States District Judge J.P. Stadtmueller described Grace's actions as a "deadly serious matter" and that she "abused her authority and violated the trust of the residents she was entrusted to serve and protect." Authorities remove over 70 animals from Wisconsin residence, prompting investigation Judge Stadtmueller further noted that a sentence of imprisonment was required to deter others and that a probationary sentence would do "no service to the rule of law." "Correctional officers are not above the law, and this sentence illustrates the importance of investigating corrupt officials who compromise the safety within our jails," said ATF Special Agent in Charge Christopher Amon of the Chicago Field Division. The case was investigated by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
