A San Jacinto High School student was shot and injured Thursday afternoon, Oct. 24, prompting school district officials to postpone San Jacinto High School’s home football game scheduled for later that night.
The shooting happened about 3:50 p.m. in the area of Tahquitz Street and Ramona Boulevard, said Sgt. Wenndy Brito-Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
“When deputies arrived, they located an injured male on the ground. The victim was alert and was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. Deputies are currently investigating. No arrests have been made at this time,” Brito-Gonzalez said.
The sergeant could not provide any description of the shooter or the suspect’s car.
The shooting happened about half a mile from San Jacinto High.
Carrie Best, a spokeswoman for the San Jacinto Unified School District, said in a message to parents that the victim was a student at San Jacinto High.
San Jacinto, 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Mountain Pass League, was scheduled to host West Valley High of Hemet, which is 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play at 7:30 p.m. The winner would have clinched at least a share of the league championship. The game had yet to be rescheduled, Best told parents.
