Delphi, Ind. (WANE)— Other small communities surrounding Delphi, Ind. were also rocked when Abby Williams and Libby German were killed, with many people living nearby having the idea that if it could happen there, it could happen anywhere. Ally Day and Jacqueline James shared that idea when the news first broke of the girls being found dead in 2017. "It just hits so close to home," Day said on the steps of the Carroll County Courthouse after court was dismissed for the day. "And we're from a small town just like this." Delphi: Knives, gun, bullets and phones taken from Allen’s home in 2022 search Day is from Frankfort, Ind., about 30 minutes south of Delphi. James is from Rossville, just 10 miles down U.S. 421 from Delphi. The two are teachers and had the day off from work. They decided to see if they could get a public seat in the courtroom as Richard Allen stood trial, charged with murder. "I think it's just been a long seven years of no answers," James said. "And when something this big hits so close to home, it just affects everyone." James and Day both emphasized how it felt strange that the trial has finally started after taking a half-decade to make an arrest and so many delays. "It always got pushed back and and then we heard, 'Oh, there might be an arrest,'" James said. "And so then that happens. And then a trial date; but it's pushed back and pushed back and pushed back. So, I feel surreal that it's actually here." The two had never sat in on a trial before, let alone one getting this much attention. "I was surprised that they allow the jurors to ask questions of each witness," James said. "That's not something you see when you you get the made-for-TV version." James and Day explained how surreal it also was to see the families of Abby Williams, Libby German, and Richard Allen sitting in the courtroom: people they have read about for years. They said they just want justice to be served.
