Man arrested after 'aggressively' advancing at officer with bat in Porterville

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man was arrested after he allegedly "aggressively advanced" at a peace officer with a metal baseball bat in Porterville on Wednesday, the city's police department said.
Police say on Oct. 23 at about 8:45 p.m., officers responded to Murry Park regarding a robbery that had occurred.
Officers then contacted several victims who reported a man, later identified as 42-year-old Adrian Contreras, was armed with a baseball bat and forcefully took cash and personal property from them, according to police.
Police say officers found Contreras in a vacant field and as they were attempting to contact him, he became uncooperative as he aggressively advanced on an officer with a metal baseball bat.
According to police, Contreras was taken into custody and he was found to be allegedly in possession of illegal narcotics, as well as property belonging to the victims.
Police say he was arrested for suspicion of armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance.
He was transported to the South County Detention Facility in lieu of $60,000 bail.
