(KRON) -- Cal State University East Bay has partnered with San Leandro and Hayward Unified School Districts to give qualified students a guaranteed path to higher education. From now on, any HUSD or SLSD student graduating from high school with a 2.5 GPA and completed A-G coursework can automatically qualify for admission to CSU East Bay. “Applying for college can be daunting,’’ said HUSD Superintendent Jason Reimann. “Removing barriers such as these helps empower students to pursue their educational aspirations with confidence. And it signals to students — and their families — that their whole community supports their success.” According to CSU East Bay, high school seniors will each receive a letter informing them whether they qualify for guaranteed admission and will be invited to visit and preview the university's Hayward campus. Students will still have to apply to enroll with the school formally. SLUSD Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Sonal Patel said receiving a personal invitation such as this one can be "transformative" for both students and families, commenting the following: “This type of personal outreach is about more than eligibility — it's about belonging, about knowing that there is a place for them in their community. We want our students to feel welcomed and valued as they take this next important step in their educational journey." Guaranteed admission aside, students will also be offered "coordinated support services." These services are designed to smoothen the transition from high school to college by offering support to help students and families understand the financial aid and academic resources available to them. "As a graduate of San Leandro High myself, I know how much my college degree has given me. I am so grateful to have played a role in bringing this program to reality for today's students," said Cal State East Bay President Cathy Sandeen. CSU East Bay's deadline to submit an application is on Dec. 2, 2024. The university will host a "Preview Day" where students can indulge in campus tours, workshops, and more. More info can be found here. According to CSU East Bay, college graduates can earn between $1 million to $2.5 million more than high school graduates over a lifetime.
