SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Congressman Richard Neal has been representing Springfield in Washington for 30 years. During that time, his son Brendan Neal started the company "Neal Strategies." It's a full-service public affairs firm that offers lobbying services and political advice to clients. Congressman Neal visits WNE to announce significant funding for engineering department A new report in Politico says some of Brendan's clients have received favorable tax provisions that were passed by the Ways and Means Committee, of which Congressman Neal was the chairman for 4 years. The report says one company hired by Brendan Neal successfully lobbied for expanded tax credits for bio-fuel companies that were eventually passed by the Ways and Means Committee. Politico said those tax credits cost the federal government $2 billion. Neal's challenger in next month's congressional race, Nadia Milleron, says it's unethical. "These reports are not illegal, but they are ethically damning and morally wrong," said Milleron. "We should have no place for pay-for-play in public office." A spokesperson for Congressman Neal said that his son has never tried to influence the Ways and Means Committee. The statement goes on to say "With early voting started, while his political opponents are manufacturing distractions, he remains clear-eyed about what's really important in the stakes of this election - fighting to lower costs for working families, for a woman's right to choose and to preserve Social Security. That's what's on that ballot and why he's traveling from Pittsfield to Pittsburgh campaigning for Kamala Harris." The Politico article did not say anything that the Congressman or his son has done is illegal. Local News Headlines Minor injuries reported in three-car collision in Springfield Sen.
