CANADIAN COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) - The Canadian County Clerk’s Office is rolling out a new fraud alert notification system. It’s similar to the one used in Oklahoma County.  "Unfortunately, we are in that world that, you know, we want to protect things that we've paid for,” Sherry Murray, the Canadian County Clerk.  LOCAL NEWS: Oklahoma woman warns of text message toll scam Murray said according to the FBI, property and mortgage fraud is one of the fastest growing crimes in America.  She isn’t aware of any cases in Canadian County, but earlier this year we told you about a southwest Oklahoma City woman who nearly lost her home because someone filed a fraudulent deed on her house.  The new monitoring system will send you an email if a document, such as a deed or lien, is recorded with your name, business name or legal description as it appears in the title. Murray said it gives property owners an early warning of property fraud being committed, and an opportunity to take action to prevent further fraud.  "It's an added security,” said Murray.  If you think you’re a victim of fraud, immediately contact law enforcement.  LOCAL NEWS: Edmond police warns of phone scam “Plus, they would want to reach out to an attorney to make sure that they can get that paperwork that was filed,” added Murray.  The system is free. Murray signed up for it herself and said it worked.  "We had to file a corrective deed, and it automatically notified me the minute it was filed,” said Murray.  To sign up, contact the Canadian County Clerk’s Office at (405) 295-6122 or (405) 295-6139.
