OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is reminding Oklahomans to pay attention while driving after dash camera video shows a semi driver crashing into several other drivers. OHP said the driver of a pick-up truck was looking down while driving and caused a multi-car crash with a semi and eight vehicles. "The Oklahoma patrol would like to remind everyone again to be vigilant and also to be aware of your surroundings inside the vehicle and outside," said Preston Cox with OHP. It was just before 7 a.m. on Friday morning when a dashboard camera from a semi-truck involved caught the crash on I-44 on video. "The driver was not paying attention while northbound on Interstate 44. You can see several vehicles to the north of this vehicle already breaking in this. The driver of this truck does not break and until too late," said Cox. Two people had to be transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Trooper Cox said usually accidents like this one don't end so lucky. One person killed in fiery crash near Lake Hefner "More times than not, when dealing with multi-vehicle collisions, there are injuries. And specifically, you know, a lot of times they can be fatal," said Cox. OHP said they see several multi-car accidents a week, especially during rush hour. They said it's important to limit any distractions. "First and foremost is to put your cell phone down. Limit interior and exterior distractions, cell phones, radio," said Cox. They want to make sure all Oklahoma drivers remain not only safe, but vigilant. "You need to focus more on driving while we're in the vehicle rather than all the other distractions that can partake while we're driving," said Cox. Troopers also want you to watch out for people riding motorcycles and for objects in the road. The fine for distracted driving starts at $100.
