WINNECONNE, Wis. (WFRV) - Years after the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources mandated Winneconne to remove 'Gross Alpha' from the drinking water, the city officially held an open house for a new system to make drinking water cleaner and safer. Gross Alpha is naturally occurring radiation, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The new reverse osmosis system cost around $5.5 million and is expected to help filter out that radioactivity. Boys & Girls Club members in Sturgeon Bay surprised with 100 free laptops "The visual aspect of it and cleanliness of it is that there's less strain on their own water systems at home," Winneconne Village Administrator Logan Fuller said. The village has already seen results, according to Fuller. Wisconsin Public Service crews return after successfully aiding Florida from hurricane damage "People are removing reverse osmosis systems that you can purchase for your homes because the water quality is so good," Fuller said. Winneconne is the third community in the state to install a system as such.
