Dispute over bicycle led to deadly Ogden St shooting: docs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A dispute over a bicycle led to the fatal shooting of 34-year-old man in East Bakersfield last week, according to court documents.
Investigators say Dolores Alatorre shot Armando Meza Jr. at about 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 18.
It happened on Ogden Street, near the Mercado Latino, where neighbors told sheriff’s detectives they heard the two arguing before they heard a shot.

Witnesses said they heard Meza’s last words. As Alatorre sat in her car holding a chrome pistol, Meza said, “If you’re going to use, then use it.”
Meza was pronounced dead at Kern Medical about an hour later.
The 34-year-old Alatorre left the area but was arrested two days later.

She told detectives Meza stole her son’s bike and became belligerent when she asked him about it and said Meza reached into the car and said he was going to hurt her. She said she fired to protect herself.
Alatorre was charged with first degree murder and pleaded not guilty Tuesday. A preliminary hearing was set for November.
