Multivehicle crash causes major traffic delays on I95 in Caroline County
Oct 24, 2024
CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation warns drivers that they may experience a major delay in their morning commute on Interstate 95 in both directions due to a multi-vehicle crash in Caroline County.
According to VDOT, a multi-vehicle crash took place at mile marker 108 on I-95 northbound and southbound.
Drivers can expect major delays in both directions on I-95 near the Carmel Church exit and near the Ladysmith exit.
As of 11:30 a.m., VDOT reported that I-95 southbound remains closed with all traffic being detoured at the Ladysmith exit to Route 1 in Caroline County, with a 7-mile backup taking place from the diversion point.
According to VDOT, traffic signal timing has been adjusted along the Route 1 corridor in Spotsylvania and Caroline counties to ease congestion.
At 6:33 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, Virginia State Police responded to a crash involving five vehicles, which included a tractor-trailer and a trash truck.
State police investigations determined that the tractor-trailer was merging in from a rest area onto I-95, when it collided into a trash truck -- causing a chain reaction type of crash with three other cars, leading to a fire.
According to state police, there was only one minor injury reported, which is non-life-threatening.
VDOT advises drivers to use an alternative route. For more traffic updates, please visit 511Virginia.org.
VSP and VDOT are collaboratively working together to navigate drivers through detours in the area.
