PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A City of Bowie Police officer was indicted Thursday after he shot at an unarmed man last month, Prince George's County officials said. Sgt. Robert Warrington was indicted by a grand jury on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office. On Sept. 12, Warrington pulled over to help someone he believed was stranded on Collington Road. After a brief conversation with him, officials said he crossed the median and walked past the officer. Alexandria police officer will not be charged after shooting, killing man armed with gun; body-worn camera footage released Warrington then aimed at the man and fired a round from his service weapon. Though he missed the man, a passing vehicle was hit. “We are pleased with this indictment and feel that it is fair based on the circumstances, we applaud Chief Dwayne Preston and the entire City of Bowie Police Department for their transparency during this investigation,” Prince George's County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy stated. In a statement, the City of Bowie Police Department Chief Dwayne A. Preston said he supported the grand jury's "independent objective process." He added that Sgt. Warrington will be suspended without pay. Warrington is a 12-year veteran of the City of Bowie Police Department.
