MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A warning letter was sent to Southwind High School by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association after multiple fights broke out at the high school's homecoming football game last Friday. The letter to SHS principal John Bush, stated that the fights transpired in the stands of the stadium during the game's halftime intermission. TSSAA Executive Director Mark Reeves said school officials and security were unable to control the crowd, leading to the game ending early. Principal Bush said in a social media post that because of the incident, he is now requiring that a parent or guardian attend future home football and basketball games with students. The TSSAA stated in the letter to Southwind High that if Principal Bush had not taken this preventative measure, the school could have lost its privilege of hosting postseason events, like home playoff games. Southwind High School was sent a warning letter by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association following multiple fights during the school's homecoming football game. "If we wouldn't have made any changes or if there were more fights at Southwind Football games we could lose the ability to host home playoff games," said Principal John Bush. "I didn't know this when I made the decision to require parents to attend home games with their students. I just know that we had to do something different." The letter ended with a warning to the school, saying that if another similar incident were to take place, it could once again jeopardize the school's opportunity to host such events.
