RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Commonwealth University Police and VCU School of Pharmacy students are inviting the public to dispose of unused and unwanted medications at a Drug Take Back Day event on Saturday. The Drug Take Back Day event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at The Compass, located at 199 N. Linden St., in the center of VCU's Monroe Park Campus near the Shafer Dining Center and James Branch Cabell Library. According to a spokesperson for VCU School of Pharmacy, students in the university's new bachelor's degree in pharmaceutical sciences program and Pharm.D. students will be present at the event to educate the community on the importance of properly disposing of medications and how to do so at home. VCU students will also lead demonstrations on the use of naloxone, an emergency medication used for reversing an opioid overdose. According to the spokesperson, alongside unused medications, people are also encouraged to bring any vapes or cigarettes they wish to dispose of. Metered street parking and paid parking for the event are available at VCU's West Main Street Parking Deck.
