ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Seneca Falls police arrested two people after attempting to enter a home with Child Protective Services, finding two unsecure firearms that could have been accessible to a 3-year-old in the home. Investigators said on October 8, SFPD was assisting Seneca County CPS with a welfare check of a home. CPS officials were granted a court order allowing for access into the home by CPS and SFPD. Marquise Hatten, 24, and Passion Edwards, 21, were informed of the order and also provided a copy of the court order. According to police, Edwards became verbally aggressive towards officers when they attempted to enter the home, and officers eventually attempted to arrest her for obstructing entry into the home. As she began resisting arrest, Hatten attempted to obstruct officers and eventually resisted arrest while being taken into custody as well. Both Hatten and Edwards were then successfully arrested and taken into custody as CPS and SFPD safely entered the home. SFPD says once inside, officers found two unsecure firearms in the upstairs bedroom in areas that could have been accessible to a 3-year-old living in the home. The child was inside of the home when officers were on the scene and was temporarily removed by CPS for safety reasons. Police note that the firearms were not in a safe storage space, and did not have any gun locks installed on them. Hatten and Edwards were charged with Obstructing Governmental Administration (2nd), Resisting Arrest, two counts of Failure to Safely Store Firearms (1st) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Both were issued appearance tickets and will answer charges at a later date in Seneca Falls Town Court.
