Record and near-record high temperatures return Thursday afternoon. A cold front brings a slight drop in temperatures Friday before warming up again this weekend. Temperatures continue a warming trend today across New Mexico, climbing as much as 5° to 10° warmer than Tuesday afternoon. Dry air continues to keep skies clear across the state today as well. Temperatures will once again cool off quickly overnight, with chilly temperatures to start the day Thursday, but record and near-record high temperatures are likely in the afternoon. Albuquerque will even climb into the 80s, with southern New Mexico climbing into the 90s. Winds may also get breezy Thursday afternoon in northern parts of the state. A weak cold front will move through New Mexico Thursday night from the northeast. This front will drop high temperatures over 10° for Friday afternoon in eastern New Mexico, while the western half of the state will remain basically untouched. We will stay dry too even with the front moving through. Temperatures start a warming trend again on Saturday, with more record and near-record high temperatures likely across parts of the state Sunday and Monday. A storm system approaches New Mexico Monday, bringing in a breezy afternoon wind across the state. The strongest winds arrive Tuesday afternoon, when we could see widespread wind gusts as high as 35 to 50+ mph. A cold front will sweep across New Mexico next Tuesday evening, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures by next Wednesday. Winds will be dying down next Wednesday, but we will be left with some of the coldest air so far this season. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's going to bring a lot of moisture. Rain and heavy mountain snow is looking likely in southwest Colorado, but most of New Mexico will stay dry. An isolated shower and light mountain snow may be possible in northern New Mexico.
