OSSIAN, Ind. (WANE) -- Crews from Bluffton and southwest Allen County helped the Ossian Fire Department tackle a large woods fire Wednesday morning. Just before 5:00 a.m., Ossian Fire Chief Ben Fenstermaker responded to reports of a woods fire in the 1800 block of Brook Court in southeast Ossian, according to a Facebook post from the Ossian Fire Department. When he arrived at the scene, he found a "large, wind-driven" woods fire that was approximately four acres in size. Firefighters from the Bluffton Fire Department, Southwest Allen County Fire Protection District and Preble Fire Department also responded to the fire, and crews were able to clear the scene after more than two hours. In addition to standard tankers, crews used brush trucks, UTVs and a drone to extinguish the flames, according to the Ossian Fire Department. Authorities said the property manager did not know how the fire started, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
