(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Wednesday, Oct. 23 Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department announced the completion of trail improvements at Bear Creek Cañon Park. The trail is found on the western edge of El Paso County's Bear Creek Regional Park. The updated trail will provide valuable regional connectivity through Bear Creek Cañon Park to Red Rock Canyon Open Space, North Cheyenne Cañon Park via Gold Camp Road, High Drive, and to U.S. Forest Service lands, according to the City. The improvement work added 4,700 feet of new trail, re-routing damaged and unsustainable sections of trail and reinforcing existing trails. Work was done by City Park staff and volunteers. The City said the work also provides increased accessibility through the park including "Terrain Hoppers" allowing those with disabilities to experience trails previously inaccessible to them. "We want to make sure that all community members have the ability to access our parks and open spaces," said Dan Allen, Trail Project Specialist with COS Parks District.
