COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- The Ohio Attorney General announced this week that six cases have been filed in the state for illegal voting.  There's just one problem. According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office, one of those people indicted has been dead for nearly two years. Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley called out Ohio Attorney General David Yost to dismiss the state's indictment of Ramesh Patel, who died in December 2022.  "Prosecutor O'Malley is philosophically opposed to indicting deceased individuals who clearly have no way of defending themselves," O'Malley's office wrote in the press release, calling Yost's indictment of Patel "one of the greatest examples of prosecutorial overreach I have ever witnessed." Yost's office announced recently that it has investigated more than 600 cases of election integrity referred to his office by the Ohio Secretary of State's office. Of those cases, 138 involved illegal voting, and 121 of those were new and weren't investigated previously. Of those 138 cases, seven were forwarded to a grand jury, which handed down six indictments.  The last case investigated by the attorney general's office allegedly happened in 2020.  In the press release, O'Malley's office stated it has prosecuted two people for voter fraud and indicted a third this week.  NBC4 reached out to Yost's office for a response, but had not heard back as of 6:15 p.m.
