BISMARCK, N.D. (KXNET) — NATIVE, Inc. has been awarded a three-year federal grant of over $850,000 from the Administration for Native Americans — a Tribal program funded by the Administration for Children and Families. The Social and Economic Development Strategies program works to provide federal grant funding to promote social and economic independence for Native communities. The grant given to NATIVE, Inc. is stated to be for $889,473, a total three-year project cost of $1,111,951, to help preserve and expand cultural practices in ND. According to a press release from NATIVE, Inc., the grant money will be used to fund a project to increase cultural preservation practices through culture and arts programming — including the expansion of their programs into the Grand Forks and Fargo areas. The group also plans to create a Native artist cohort of 15 members to enhance business development, exposure, and opportunities, as well as a statewide Cultural and Arts Advisory Council representing leaders from the five tribes of the Dakotas.
