MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police say a man is facing multiple charges after he was connected to multiple fires across Memphis on Tuesday. According to reports, around 1:30 a.m., Memphis Police responded to an arson call at a Shell gas station located at 6975 East Shelby Drive in southeast Memphis. An employee at the gas station told police that a man had purchased $1 in gas and pumped it into a brown bag. He then walked into the store, set the bag on fire, and threw it onto firewood inside the business. The employee was able to put the fire out before MPD arrived. Several cars shot up in Cordova Rafferty’s parking lot Before responding to the call at the gas station, police say they were called out to a car fire at 4205 Riverdale Road, a Hickory Hill Auto Zone. A 2022 Chevrolet Colorado had been set on fire at the business. Also on East Shelby Drive, officers responded to a fire at the Hedgerow Apartments where a bush had been set ablaze, but it was extinguished. Officers then responded to a dumpster fire at the Walgreens located at 6939 Riverdale Road in southeast Shelby County. Reports say MPD found the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jamie Shotwell, at Ross Road and Boylston Drive from surveillance video at the Shell gas station. He ran from officers but was taken into custody shortly after. 📡 See more breaking news, local news and weather from WREG.com for Memphis and the Mid-South. 📧 Sign up for WREG newsletters and have the latest top stories sent right to your inbox.
