ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The second of four inmates who escaped from the Chesterfield County Detention Center has been found and arrested, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department. Anton Conway Bennett, 30, was found around 1 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. This is in Halifax County which is northeast of Raleigh and about 10 miles from Virginia. Officers responded to the area of Clinton Street about a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived they found Bennett with the vehicle that appeared broken down. New details revealed on 4 SC inmates’ escape, suspected female accomplice arrested: Docs During the interaction, officers were told that the vehicle was reported stolen from South Carolina. When the officer tried to detain Bennett, he ran but was quickly captured, officials said. According to police, Bennett identified himself as Garmal Brown from Santee, South Carolina, but did not have any identification on him. He was initially booked under a $5,000 bond for possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer. His court date was set for Friday, Oct. 18, and he was to be held until he had some form of ID. On Tuesday, Oct. 22, authorities learned Garmal Brown was not his real name and confirmed it was Bennett who was wanted out of Chesterfield County, South Carolina, for escaping the detention center on Monday, Oct. 14, with three others. Police say Bennett appeared to be on the way to Chesterfield County, Virginia, where he has family. He was also wanted there by local law enforcement for several theft cases. Before Brown's arrest, only one other, 23-year-old Emanuel Planco, was arrested. Bennett was booked into the Halifax County Detention Center for identity theft and the original charges of having a stolen vehicle and resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer. Police say he was awaiting extradition to South Carolina and Virginia.
